About the book

Small Things in the Ether follows Claire Williamson, a Black school principal, single mother, and survivor of her own battles with self-worth and body image. Though she navigates daily struggles with resilience, Claire is about to face a threat that far exceeds anything she’s encountered before—a powerful movement bent on reshaping America in the image of its narrow, racially charged ideals.

The threat takes shape in The Movement, a well-funded, racially motivated Christian organization led by the charismatic yet sinister megachurch pastor Presley Milner. Driven by a vision to “restore” the country to what he believes are its godly roots, Milner has his sights set on the ultimate prize: the presidency. If he succeeds, his leadership could plunge the nation into an era of discrimination and repression, masked as a return to “traditional” values.

Unbeknownst to her, Claire has caught the attention of forces beyond the mortal realm. The archangels Michael and Uriel are assigned to protect and guide her, each determined to ensure Claire stays on a path that could prevent Milner’s rise to power. As supernatural forces entwine with political agendas, Claire must confront both earthly and divine challenges in a race to stop a fate that could alter the nation’s future.

Through a harrowing journey of self-discovery, Claire learns to draw strength from her identity and her role in a world that constantly challenges her authority and sense of self. She discovers that her influence extends far beyond her school walls—she is destined to be a beacon of resistance against a system that seeks to undermine her and those like her.

With each step, Claire finds herself navigating a delicate balance between faith, community, and the fierce determination of a woman who, against all odds, stands ready to protect the people she loves. In Small Things in the Ether, political tension and divine intervention collide in a gripping story of resilience, courage, and the fight for justice. This is a tale for Black women everywhere who rise up, even when the world overlooks their strength.
